Technology is integrated into the educational experience at Saint Thomas the Apostle School. Our School has nearly 70 PC's on our network with a direct, high-speed connection to the Internet. Each classroom has a cluster of four networked PC's for student use. Each faculty and staff member have dedicated PC's and e-mail accounts to facilitate communication with parents and students. Our faculty receives ongoing training in the use of technology tools and their integration into education. Computer Explorers provides age-appropriate technology curriculum for each grade level ranging from exposure and familiarization at the early grades, to extensive use of technology tools in supporting reports and research projects in the Middle School. Our Library has a modern Resource Center and supports the faculty and students in the use of electronic research and technology tools in student projects. Saint Thomas the Apostle School was one of the first schools in Delaware to receive a grant under the federal government's Universal Service Schools & Libraries e-rate program supporting technology funding in education. In addition, St. Thomas was a participating school in WHYY's Education Connection Project - a national project funded by a US Department of Education Technology Challenge Grant. This five year project placed PC's in students' homes along with Internet access and studied the use of a technology integrated curriculum on student performance. |
