Welcome to St. Thomas School's Library

One of the jewels of Saint Thomas the Apostle School is our modern Library and Resource Center. Constructed in 1996 as part of our expansion wing, the Library's vaulted ceiling and many windows provides a bright, airy, and welcoming environment where students are encouraged to experience the joy of reading. The vibrant paintings on the walls, were recently created by a former St. Thomas student, Matthew Terranova. Matt has created a tribute to the adventures available to everyone through reading. The Library has over 3,100 books in its' collection, five high-end Pentium-class computers with a direct, high-speed Internet connection and an extensive CDROM reference collection. A laser and color ink jet printers, scanner, and digital camera are available for student's use in assembling multimedia research projects and presentations. Librarian Mrs. Marjorie Taggart provides integrated, age-appropriate programs for all the students of St. Thomas School:
- Kindergarten visits for storytime once a week. As they gather in their own carpeted, cubby area of the Library, they learn listening skills, build vocabulary and begin the foundation of enjoying reading and stories. - In addition to storytime, First and Second Graders begin to learn a little of how a Library works and how books are put together. - Third through Fifth Graders are taught the skills of the working Library with a Fourth and Fifth grade concentration on research techniques. - Sixth through Eighth Graders visit the Library once a week to select books of their choice. Mrs. Taggart coordinates with Middle School faculty to support in-depth research required for student assignments and projects. Volunteer Library Aides Mrs. Donna White and Ms. Bonnie Harkins assist students with Library programs and research assignments. Caring, individual attention for students is a focus at the St. Thomas School Library. Our Library hosts an Annual Book Fair every spring. The Fair is opened at least one evening with a program involving a professional storyteller for families to come and enjoy. Parents who wish to honor their child's birthday with a Library book can join the Birthday Book Club. Stop by the Library and get the details from Mrs. Taggart. Students love to see that special book plate in the front of the book with their name and birthday in it! Alumni often stop in and ask if "their" book is still in circulation - its great! Visitors are welcomed at any time! Please stop by and see us, or visit our card catalogue on the web! Click here to search St. Thomas' Library.
